ONE of the country’s best-loved TV sitcoms is coming to Durham

A production of Richard Curtis and Ben Elton’s beloved television series, Blackadder The Third, will be performed in the Assembly Rooms Theatre by Durham Student Theatre’s Ooook! Productions.

The group, which puts on several productions in the city every year, has raised more than £20,000 for charity and is giving all the profits of this play to Comic Relief.

Blackadder The Third, set in the extravagant 18th century, follows tortured mastermind Edmund Blackadder, butler to the Prince Regent, as he continually attempts to extract his pathetic master Prince George from scrapes and hilarities, whilst struggling to suppress his servant Baldrick’s cunning plans.

The original series starred Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Laurie and Tony Robinson, and has been consistently voted one of Britain’s best-loved sitcoms.

  • The play, with a cast of ten, is directed by Anna Haines. It will be performed every evening at 7.30pm, from Wednesday 21 June to Friday 23 June. Tickets are £7.50 (£6.50 students, £6 DST), available at the Durham Student Theatre website and on the door.
