TOM Pidcock belied his teenage years to take victory as the Tour Series came to Durham.

Pidcock, the current Junior World Cyclo-Cross Champion and winner of the Junior Paris Roubaix earlier this year, became the first Junior rider to win a round of The Tour Series since Matt Gibson.

The ninth round of the series was always going to be a war of attrition for the best riders in Britain, with punishing cobble climbs to be tackled during the hour-plus event.

But throw in a pre-race thunderstorm and showers during the event itself and it made for an eventful and memorable evening of racing.

Hotly tipped before the race, PH Mas - Paul Milnes - Oldfield rider Pidcock, 17, was initially part of a small group of riders, but soon forged on alone.

Although the chasing group closed in the final stages, the Leeds youngster had done enough to seal victory to rapturous applause from the enthusiastic crowd.

Speaking afterwards he said: "The crowd was pretty mega here, so thankyou.

"I was actually going to wait until five laps to go, but there was a massive crash at the start and there seemed to be about eight people left, so I thought 'you know what I may as well go here'."

Asked if he knew Connor Swift had begun to reel him in towards the end, Pidcock said: "I did a bit, but Neil my team manager said ten seconds. I thought he was joking because I couldn't see anybody."

Madison Genesis rider swift finished second, six seconds down, with Ali Slater, of JLT Condor, third.

BIKE Channel Canyon returned to the podium with Rory Townsend collecting the Brother Fastest Lap from ITV4's Ned Boulting.

There was no change in the Wiggle Points Jersey standings, with Team Raleigh GAC's Sebastian Mora having sealed the classification in Aberdeen recently, all the points in Durham went to riders outside of the top three places.
