A FUN challenge celebrating part of the North-East’s regional character was launched at the weekend.

The Geordie Games, a new day out destination, is aimed at stag and hen dos visiting Newcastle, birthdays, charity events or groups of friends who are up for a laugh.

It draws on Geordie culture and the party-loving reputation Tynesiders have created in the city’s night time economy, with games such as the Geordie Ale Run, the Kebab Shop Duel and Geet Massive Sumo Marras.

It is the idea of 29-year-old Jack Beadle, from Darlington, who also owns outdoor recreation company Fury Events.

He said: “The idea came from the nation’s love of all things Geordie.

“Coming from an events background, we had seen a change in trends for the stag and hen market and we wanted to bring something new to the table.”

The Geordie Games will be based at based at Broom House Farm, Witton Gilbert, County Durham.

Teams of up to ten people have the chance to battle through nine themed games, winning points and getting messy as they go.

Others games include On Ya Bike, Sling Ya Hook, Mortal Pitch And Toss and Ya Ganna Get Clarty.

The games course, similar to activities in television programmes such as Total Wipeout and It’s A Knockout, was unveiled on Sunday and is having its official launch on Saturday May 20.

People can expect to see inflatable kebabs, sumo wrestling costumes, balloons of gunk and Geordie slang galore.

Mr Beadle said: “In a hen or stag do, people want something that the rest of their party will remember for years to come.

“They are looking for something fun, memorable and most importantly, something that gets everyone laughing. From this, The Geordie Games was born.

“Think Highland Games combined with Total Wipeout and a night out on the Toon and you pretty much have The Geordie Games summed up.

“It’s a mad half-day event competing against the rest of your team for points and Geordie glory.

“We’ve been so excited about the launch of The Geordie Games so people can finally experience what we’ve been planning for so long.”

It costs £45 per person and includes a t-shirt and a sausage sarnie. For details call 0783-424-3074 or email info@thegeordiegames.co.uk
