AN annual Nostalgia Day will bring the spirit of 1940s into the heart of Durham.

On Bank Holiday Monday, visitors will enjoy the sights and sounds of wartime Britain with a living history tableau, live music, dancing, markets and more.

Entertainment takes place from 11am to 4pm in the Market Place and Walkergate.

Colin Wilkes, managing director of Durham Markets, said: “This is a popular event, and loved by all ages.

“The era holds a fascination for children and adults alike and the day’s atmosphere is all the better because market traders and even visitors dress up to make the most of it.

“It’s a must for the Bank Holiday Monday.”

Yesterday’s Heroes will give people the opportunity to get up close with military vehicles and equipment from the time and learn more about Britain during the war.

There will also be Lindy Jazz dancing and entertainment from crooner Jay B.

The Market Place will also feature the ‘Heartbeat Bus’, built in the 1940s and restored by Aycliffe and District Bus Preservation Society, which has since appeared in the TV show Heartbeat.
