A MOTORWAY service station has been named one of the best in Britain.
Durham Motorway Service Area at Bowburn on the A1(M) won four awards at the annual Roadchef Heroes of the Year ceremony.
The site beat 30 other Roadchef service areas from across the country to win Site of the Year and also Single Sided Site of the year.
Staff member Christine Hayes won the company’s Developing People individual prize and was also named Hero of the Year.
Helen Mulligan, site director at Durham, said: “Christine is a superstar and a real hit with the regulars, so much so that they will purposely queue up at Christine’s till to be served by her rather than anyone else.
“She has helped create a culture of great service and helped to drive the business forward.”
Simon Turl, chief executive of Roadchef, said: “Roadchef would be not the company it is without integral characters like Christine.
“Her passion and drive make her fully deserving of this award.”
