AS if a 10k run wasn’t difficult enough, a 47-year-old charity champion has done so dressed as a dalek.

Steve Roberts appeared as Doctor Who’s arch enemy for the Blackpool 10k on Sunday to mark the return of the sci-fi series.

For the last six years, the Durham University porter has taken part in events across the country in extraordinary outfits to raise money for children’s charity Barnardo’s.

He said: “It all started because I was going to do the Great North Run but I got injured so I thought if I wore fancy dress it wouldn’t matter if I had to walk.

“The dalek costume is one of the easier costumes I run in as it’s lightweight and comfortable to wear, but it does offer the same challenge as most of my costumes - severely impaired vision.

“It went down well with spectators and fellow runners - even though many who cheered me thought I was Darth Vader”.

Steve finished in just over one hour and twelve minutes.
