DEALERS from across the country are expected to attend the region’s biggest stamp collectors’ fair which takes place this weekend.
The North-East of England Philatelic Association is to hold its annual Stamp Fair and Convention at Bowburn Community Centre, at Bowburn, near Durham on Saturday.
At least 14 stamp and postcard dealers from as far afield as Lincoln, Liverpool and Sheffield will attend, selling stamps and items of postal history from around the world, alongside collectors from across the country.
Valuations can be given and collections bought and sold.
There will also be a variety of displays covering subjects ranging from Japanese stamps used on the infamous Thai-Burma Railway, the world’s first stamps the Penny Black and Twopenny Blue and the postal history of Chester-le-Street.
David Turner, from Redcar and Cleveland Philatelic Society, will present his award-winning display on Elihu Burritt’s quest for an ocean penny post, while Allan Wood of Nottingham will give a talk on the stamps of Ethiopia.
An association spokesman said: “Whether you are new to the hobby, an average collector like most of us, or a seasoned enthusiast you will find something of interest”.
The Stamp Fair will be open from 10am to 4pm and admission is free, with light refreshments available.
