STAFF at a North-East energy company have raised £12,000 for a charity caring for premature and sick newborn babies.

The Banks Group, which is based in Durham, chose to raise money for the Tiny Lives Trust after it was nominated by employee Nicky Marshall, who works at its Shotton surface mine, near Cramlington, because of the care it provided for his daughter Lola-Rose.

Staff raised £12,000 during year of raffles, cake bakes, coffee mornings and taking part in events including Tough Mudder Yorkshire.

Tiny Lives supports babies and families being cared at the special care baby unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle.

Sara Ellis, a member of the company's charity fundraising committee, said: "The practical and emotional support provided by the Tiny Lives Trust to families in extremely challenging circumstances is absolutely invaluable, and our team has taken to fundraising for this great regional cause with real gusto."
