AN ARTIST is working with people to create a unique heritage recipe book as part of a family history project.

Kay Henderson will be artist in residence at Clayport Library, in Durham, as part of a project to encourage people to explore their roots through family recipes.

She will be showing people how to explore their family history using pictures, anecdotes and oral history, including how to research using archive material in the library including newspapers and magazines, and help them produce their own recipe cards.

She said: "As a historian and artist I am really passionate about family history. During this project we will look at how food can transport us back to a distant memory or place and how nourishing our families through invention, creativity, thrift and love is just as relevant today as it always has been.”

The workshops will take place between 1pm and 3pm on Saturdays on April 1, 8 and 22 and Mondays on April 3, 10 and 24.
