A MARKET featuring the region's finest food and drink producers is being held to celebrate St Cuthbert's Day.

It is taking place in the Cloisters of Durham Cathedral today, between 10am and 4pm.

Produce available will include locally-produced cheeses, sausages, baked goods, patisserie, beers, chocolates and much more.

Colin Wilkes, managing director of Durham Markets, said: “A market in the Cloisters of Durham Cathedral has a unique atmosphere, all the more special because the city’s original markets would have originated in this area. I recommend that everyone takes the time to enjoy the setting as well as discover the fantastic food and drink on offer.”

St Cuthbert’s Day celebrations include the annual Northumbrian Society walk from St Mary’s and St Cuthbert’s Church in Chester-le-Street.

The walkers will be welcomed into the cathedral at 2.15pm for a prayers at the Shrine of St Cuthbert.

Other events on the day include guided cathedral tours, two for one entry in the Open Treasures exhibition, storytelling for children and a special sung Eucharist service at 5.15pm.
