WORLD-renowned musicians are working with young performers to create a soundtrack for a film celebrating the landscape of County Durham.

The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment have been working with Durham County Youth Orchestra and Choir to compose the soundtrack to Sounds of Durham.

The final work will be unveiled in a concert at Durham Johnston School in Durham on Saturday, March 4.

The Sounds of Durham concert also features music by baroque masters Bach and Biber, and new songs by composer James Redwood.

The film celebrates the beauty of the County Durham landscape, as well as exploring how it is changing due to environmental challenges.

Filmmaker, Zen Grisdale said: “It has been an enjoyable process finding out from the children about where they live and then hunting down and filming their ideas.

“Usually a film is made to music, but this way round it’s like making a silent movie for which a soundtrack is to be made.

“I’m really looking forward to hearing what they come up with.”

Sounds of Durham takes place at the school in Crossgate Moor, Durham at 5pm.

Tickets, priced £7 or £5 for concessions, are available from the orchestra’s website oae.co.uk or Gala Theatre box office at galadurham.co.uk or 03000 266 600.
