DURHAM Cathedral is looking for new members to shape its future.

The Cathedral Chapter, which looks after the governance of the cathedral, needs two new lay members to provide strategic leadership and direction.

It is made up of the dean, five residentiary canons and three lay members and reports to the cathedral council twice a year.

The cathedral is looking for one individual with property and estates experience at board or partner level, and a further member with an accountancy or other financial background, similarly experienced at board partner level.

The Very Reverend Andrew Tremlett, Dean of Durham and chairman of the chapter, said: "The chapter plays a vital role in shaping the life and mission of Durham Cathedral, and by doing so members of chapter also play a part in preserving this magnificent building for future generations to enjoy. The role of lay member is both a challenging and rewarding one, and we welcome enquiries from anyone interested in this role."

People interested in applying are asked to contact Katharine Smith at katharine.smith@durhamcathedral.co.uk for further information.

The deadline for applications is February 28.
