NORTHERN Echo Camera Club member Keith Corner posted these intriguing photos today.
"Found this carving on a tree between Croxdale and Hett today, it's from 1946, over 70 years old," he wrote.
"The tree is almost inaccessible now, so the landscape must have been so different then.
"Tried to enhance it to get an idea of what the initial were, possibly V something with CH below. Would love to know the story behind it."
