A TEAM of young cricketers who are heading to an Indian children’s home are appealing for unwanted mobile phones.

Boys from Durham School are visiting Chembur Children’s Homes in Mumbai this month and are trying to raise money by collecting mobile phones and computer games.

The school established links with Chembur in 2015 when one of its charges, Rupesh Barode, arrived on an exchange visit organised by the charity Cricket Beyond Boundaries, which helps youngsters travel to the UK to learn the game.

Senior master Dr Michael Alderson said: “Meeting Rupesh really affected us all and made the hardship and suffering we see in news reports suddenly seem very real.

“But we have also found, through playing cricket with him and his friends, that the ties that bind us are far stronger than the cultures and distance that separate us.

“We can help and we will – and donations of unwanted phones or computer games will make all the difference.”

Donations can be delivered to the school reception anytime between 8am-4pm Monday to Friday.
