A SCHOOL is getting parents involved to try and make sure children are staying safe online.

Pupils and parents at Esh Winning Primary School, in County Durham, took part in activities as part of Safer Internet Day.

Working with the Safe Durham Partnership and apprentices from Durham Police, the children have been learning about the dangers of being online.

Headteacher Caroline Hodgson said: "We know that there are great benefits to using the internet and that it opens up so many possibilities and opportunities to our children, but we recognise the importance of making sure that our children stay safe whilst online.

"We hope that by taking part in these activities and sharing them with parents it will reinforce the important message of keeping safe online.

“Online safety is a huge focus for us as we know that our children, like all children, are inquisitive and eager to use the internet – this is happening at a younger and younger age as technology becomes more accessible. Therefore, there is a greater importance for us in schools to support this aspect of their education and, in partnership with parents, help children to recognise, manage the risks and unite for a safer internet.”

Pupils performed raps about online safety for their parents before presenting the poems and posters.
