DURHAM University students are staging their biggest ever fashion show to raise money for refugees.

The show, which will be held in Rainton Meadows Arena, near Durham, on February 3 and 4, has already raised more than £50,000 for the International Rescue Committee.

One of the organisers Ella Phillips said: “The fashion show has been going for a long time but this is the biggest show we’ve ever put on. It’s the first time it hasn’t been held on campus and there will be an audience of about 1,600 people which is fantastic.

“Last year the event raised £27,000 and this year we have already reached £50,000 and hopefully it will be even more.

“I’ve done quite a bit of research and I believe that’s the most any single university event has ever raised which we are really proud of.”

Around 60 models were selected to take part after more than 300 applied and the show will feature clothes by internationally renowned designers who have featured in magazines including Vogue, GQ and Tatler.

The International Rescue Committee works with refugees, particularly in Syria, to support, educate and provide for those affected by humanitarian crises.
