ACHURCH is organising a year of events for the whole community as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.

All Saints Church in Newton Hall, Durham, was built 50 years ago and to celebrate a series of events are being held throughout the year.

Marion McConnell, who lead’s the church’s social committee, said: “We are trying to do a lot of different things and we’re trying to get local people involved so it’s not just people from the church.

“We would like to attract people even if they’re not religious or church-goers.

“We want to show people that we do have fun at church. Everyone is welcome to come to any of our events.”

She added: “This is a significant anniversary for us. We did something when we turned 40 but it wasn’t as big.”

The first event will be a knitted Bible exhibition, which was created by St George’s United Reform Church in Hartlepool and travels all over the country.

People are welcome to visit it at the church in Carr House Drive between 10am and 12pm and 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, January 26 and Friday, January 27, between 10am and 5pm on Saturday, January 28 and from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday, January 29.

Other events planned for the year include a Bollywood night with Indian food, a Mother’s Day afternoon tea, a fashion show, summer barbecue and calleidh.
