VOLUNTEERS are needed to help out with a project to improve the lives of people living with advanced dementia.
St Cuthbert’s Hospice, in Durham, has launched the project –Namaste Care – to help people in Durham and Chester-le-Street who can no longer care for themselves without assistance.
The hospice is looking for people to do training in a variety of methods of engagement which stimulate their senses.
Project leader Nicola Kendall said: “This new service has been developed to meet the needs of people with advanced dementia for human contact, sensory stimulation and meaningful activity.
“Volunteers are fully trained in all aspects of Namaste Care which they then deliver within the community to enable carers to also learn and deliver these activities independently at home.”
An information day is being held at the hospice on Tuesday, January 17 between 10am and 4pm. For more information call 0191 374 6189.
