A DATE has been set for an annual charity duck race.

Around 10,000 rubber ducks will be tipped into the River Wear on Sunday, March 12 for the annual Durham Duck Race organised by students from the Durham University Charities Committee.

Ducks will be tipped into the river from Elvet Bridge, with the mayor of Durham performing the starting ceremony.

Each duck will be sold for £1 and the first to cross the finishing line at Kingsgate Bridge will win its owner a prize.

The annual race is one of the university’s biggest annual fund raising events and this year profits will be divided between the Durham-based Veterans At Ease, which works in the community to help veterans overcome the traumas of war, and the Duck Local Charities Fund.
