FIREFIGHTERS will welcome families to their new fire station for a Christmas open day.

Durham Community Fire Station at Sniperley is to open its doors to visitors on Saturday from 1pm to 4pm.

The free event will include a chance for children to enjoy the views from the service’s Ariel Ladder Platform, a visit from police dogs Jet and Ben along with officers from the Police Interceptors, an inflatable smoke house, performances by Spennymoor Brass Band, children’s rides and a chance to visit Santa in his grotto.

District manager Peter Maddison said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming people to Durham Fire Station for this special Christmas open day.

“We run the open days so that members of the public can find out more about their fire and rescue service and find out how to stay safe”.
