AN ORGANISATION which supports people living with cancer in County Durham has been handed a cash donation.

The Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group was this week given a cheque for £1,000 from the Co-operative Funeralcare in Newton Aycliffe.

Funds will go towards the group which has around 70 members from across the county and meets monthly.

Founder Allison White said: “Our group would just like to thank them very much as it will make a huge difference.

“These people have been affected by cancer and have had no help and support.

“Some have young families so donations like this can help and support them more, even if it's just taking them out on a day trip.

“It just lets them spend quality time together.”

The group meets at 6pm on the first Thursday of every month at Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre.

It does not meet in January.

Anyone who would like to join or for those who might struggle over the Christmas period can call Miss White on 07762258696.
