A REDUCED speed limit will be in place on a stretch of main road to allow work to improve crossing points.

The 30 miles per hour speed limit will be in place on the A167 in the Sunderland Bridge area, from Monday, December 5.

Durham County Council is carrying out work to install a new roundabout and create better crossing points.

John Reed, the council’s head of technical services, said: “To complete the works to install a new roundabout and upgrade the junction at Sunderland Bridge, improved pedestrian and cycle crossing points are being installed, with the aim of making this part of the A167 safer for all who use it.

“I’d like to thank motorists in advance for their patience while the reduced speed limit is in place and assure them that we will carry out the work as quickly as possible.”

It will apply from the Honest Lawyer pub southbound to just past the junction with Hett Lane at Sunderland Bridge, and on the B6300 approach to the A167 roundabout.

Work is expected to take approximately five days.
