DURHAM’s newly established Jewish community is taking part in a day of social action.
Mitzvah Day, which is Jewish-led, is the largest multi-faith day of social action and takes place on Sunday, November 27.
The Durham and North East Liberal Jewish Community is working with university students, church goers and members of the community to collect food and provide lunch for Syrian and Kurdish refugees and people living in poverty in the county.
Organiser Hava Fleming said: “I am so thrilled with the response of the young university students to our invitation to volunteer. It shows a genuine desire to help others less fortunate than themselves.”
The event at Waddington Street Methodist Church is on between 9am and 3pm, are people are asked to make donations to the Durham Christian Partnership Food Bank.
