YOUNG fundraisers have been using their entrepreneurial skills to raise money for charity.

Year 12 students at Durham High School for Girls have been practising their business skills to help St Cuthbert’s Hospice, in Durham.

The school accumulator challenge, which is organised by the hospice, involves taking £50 to start a small business and trying to generate as much profit as possible.

Among those taking part were Fleur Meston, Amy Oliver, Philippa Stewart, Jazmine Moss and Amy Tinkler, who started a sweet business.

Meanwhile junior pupils at the school will also be taking part in sponsored Santa fun runs in the run up to the Christmas holidays.

Community fundraiser Jade McArdle said: “We’re delighted to have two year groups take part in two different fundraising challenges for us.

“These challenges are fun ways for the students to raise money for the hospice.

“We offer a wide range of facilities to people in the local community, including a children’s bereavement service to support children who are coping with bereavement. The money raised by the school will directly benefit local children and their families.”
