DURHAM Cathedral is again among the historic monuments, arts and science venues taking part in the Big Draw Festival, 2016.

Themed as The Steam Powered Big Draw Festival, it brings together science, technology, engineering, art and maths, looking at how innovation, enterprise, technology and the arts fuse together.

Participants can take inspiration from architect’s drawings or plans of the cathedral, or simply use their imagination how it will appear in a futuristic setting.

They are welcome to take part in the mass drawing event at the cathedral on Thursday, from 10.30am to 3.30pm.

Submitted drawings will be used to create a three-dimensional piece of artwork.

Cathedral head of education, Charlotte Rowbotham, said: “Every year we’re bowled over by the artwork handed in as part of the Big Draw Festival.

“It is always a great pleasure to see tiny toddlers, barely able to hold a crayon, being inspired alongside experienced adult artists.

“But, it is even more lovely to meet those who class themselves as ‘non-drawers’ having a go, putting down on paper how this truly beautiful building moves them.”

In addition to the main Big Draw event, the Cathedral is encouraging families with children aged three and over to get a Big Draw Backpack, available daily, up to Thursday, from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
