A FLEDGLING Jewish community is starting to make its mark with regular services and events.
The group of Liberal Jews was formed in Durham City and held its first service in July.
It is the city’s first Jewish group in more than 60 years and is aiming to attract people from across the North-East. Durham's last synagogue closed in 1955
Lay leader Hava Fleming led the group’s second service this month [August] and also led a service to mark Tisha B’Av – the Jewish day of mourning for the destruction of Jewish communities – at Newcastle Reform Synagogue.
The group is also hosting an adult education lecture on Thursday, September 8 at 7.30pm.
The talk takes place in the social hall of the Waddington Street United Reformed Church. Dr William Fleming will be speaking on the topic “God – the Inside Story”. All are welcome. Anyone interested in attending should email info@nejewsindurham.org.uk
