THE final brick has been added of a three year project to rebuild Durham Cathedral in Lego.
The last brick – a replica of the cathedral’s famous Sanctuary Knocker – was placed by seven-year-old Pearl Richardson, from Newcastle.
Pearl, who won the honour through a prize draw, has placed bricks on previous visits with her twin brother Murray and father Scott, who is a stonemason at the cathedral’s works yard team.
Durham Cathedral in Lego began on July 2013 to raise funds for Open Treasure, the new state-of-the-art exhibition experience which opened on Saturday.
The final model has 300,000 bricks and is the largest Lego model ever built by the general public, measuring 3.84 metres long, 1.53 metres wide and 1.7 metres high.
The project has raised £300,000 towards the £10.9million Open Treasure exhibition.
The model will remain on public display.
