CHILDREN got straight to business when new play equipment was unveiled in their local park.
The Chains play park, near Bakehouse Lane in Durham City, has just been given a revamp with around £25,000 worth of new equipment.
Now children in the area have a brand new climbing frame with slide and a roundabout.
The funding was given by Durham County Councillors Richard Ormerod and David Freeman.
Cllr Ormerod said: “Before the park had some play equipment but it had really come to the end of its useful life. We want to encourage families with young children to come and live in this area but they’re not going to if there is nothing for them.
“It looks superb and it’s great for it all to be in place in time for the summer holidays.”
Cllr Freeman added: “When we were elected three and a half years ago one of our objectives was to replace all the play equipment in out ward and this is the final one.
“We want a balance of people in the area and to get that we need play equipment and play areas and places for families to come and especially for grandparents to come with their grandchildren.”
