A MILITARY historian is giving a talk on part of Somme battlefield and its labyrinthine tunnel system.
Military historian Jeremy Banning will be giving a free talk about the role of the military miner and Tunnelling Companies of the Royal Engineers at an event at Palace Green Library, Durham City, on Wednesday, July 13.
He will cover the battlefield at La Boisselle, which has one of the most labyrinthine tunnel systems on the Western Front. It was undisturbed until 2011 and was known to soldiers as the Glory Hole.
The talk starts at 6pm and booking is essential. Call 0191 3342887 or book online by visiting www.dur.ac.uk/conference.booking.
