A CHAMPION brass band is heading to the North-East for a week-long music festival.

Durham’s Brass festival, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, will return to the city from July 11 t0 17.

The Fairey Brass Band is among the other acts lined up for this year’s festival.

Nine time Great British national champions, and winners of the BBC’s Best of Brass and Granada’s Band of the Year titles, the Fairey Brass Band will play at the Gala Theatre on the final day of the event.

Neil Foster, cabinet member for economic regeneration, arts and culture at Durham County Council, which organises the annual celebration, said: “For fans of brass music The Fairey Brass Band need no introduction and we are delighted that they are coming back to Durham for an afternoon concert at the Gala Theatre.

"BRASS is a fantastic event for both the city and the county, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to the area and bringing hundreds of thousands of pounds into the local economy.

"The festival has a well-deserved reputation and by continuing to attract top local, national and international talent like this we can build on the success of previous years, showcasing the very best music from around the world."
