FAMILIES visiting Durham Cathedral during half term can take part in a specially designed Lego trail.
A project to recreate the cathedral in toy bricks is in its final few weeks. The model, which was set up as a fundraising tool for the state-of-the-art Open Treasure exhibition experience, has attracted world-wide attention since it was started in 2013, and has been a huge hit with families visiting the Cathedral.
Gaye Kirby, Durham Cathedral’s head of development, said: “The Lego model has attracted interest from a wide range of people, but it has been particularly popular with children and families. It is not uncommon to see children arriving clutching their pocket-money, which they have saved up to buy bricks to place on the model.”
As the countdown to the model’s completion gets underway, the cathedral’s education team has set up the special trail, inviting children to discover objects and features in the cathedral.
The trail, which costs £1, is available between 10.30am and 3.00pm daily (12.30pm on Sundays) until 5 June from the information desk at the west end of the Cathedral.
