ONE of the region's police forces is looking to swell its ranks – with teenagers.

Durham Constabulary is currently recruiting for its police cadets.

The 13 to 17-years-old get their own uniform and follow a programme including educational workshops and have the chance to get involved with community policing, crime prevention and assisting with public safety events.

They also take part in team building exercises, physical fitness training and can work towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award as part of the scheme.

The cadet scheme is organised by the Durham Agency Against Crime (DAAC), which has won national recognition for its youth engagement projects.

Bryan Russell, executive manager of DAAC, said: “This is a great opportunity for young people to gain an insight into the police and learn some new skills.”

Applications close on Wednesday, June 15
