CHILDREN at a County Durham primary school will be learning lifesaving skills with thousands of others across the country.

St Hild’s Church of England Primary School, in Durham city, has signed up to take part in St John Ambulance’s big first aid lesson live, which is taking place on June 17.

The hour-long programme, hosted by TV medic Dr Ranj will be filmed in front of a live audience and streamed directly into classrooms so people across the country can take part.

Two lessons will be streamed, with one aimed at primary schools and the other for secondary aged children and will cover topics including choking, chest pains, seizures and insect bites.

Alison Luke, St Hild’s inclusion leader said: “We are delighted to be taking part in the Big First Aid lesson again this year. First aid is such an important life skill for children to learn and the interactive class is a great way for children to get invaluable training that could one day empower them to act if someone is in need of first aid intervention.”

The only equipment schools need to take part is an internet connection and a screen for their pupils to watch in the classroom or during assembly.
