A PRIEST delivered a speedy sermon while whipping up an omelette to encourage people to cook up their own breakfasts for people in poverty.

Reverend Joanne Thorns. regional officer for North East Churches Acting Together [NECAT], was taking part in a challenge at Durham Cathedral to deliver a 90 second homily while making an omelette to promote Christian Aid Week, which runs from May 15-21.

As part of the week, Christian Aid is running Big Brekkie fundraising events, trying to get people to raise money for those living in poverty.

Revd Thorns said: “I’m proud to work with Christian Aid and want to commend all those people in Durham and throughout the North-East who give their time and energy volunteering for Christian Aid Week; people who, through running collections, Big Brekkies and a host of other events show real love for their neighbours in need around the world.”

She served up breakfast after preaching a 90 second homily on neighbourly love and why Christian Aid raising money for people in Bangladesh, where increasingly warm, wet weather is affecting agriculture, causing flooding and forcing people to flee their homes.
