HUNDREDS of children are getting ready to dash their way through Durham.

The fifth Durham Dash, organised by Change 4 Life, will be taking place on Wednesday, June 15.

Around 800 children from Durham and Chester-le-Street are already signed up to take part in the race from the Market Place to the Cathedral.

The event was launched by County Durham’s Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg, who is preparing for events including the FA Cup final, Champions League final and the European Championships in France.

He said: “Sport was a big part of my childhood, playing with mates and now as a career an international football referee. It is events such as the Change 4 Life Durham and Sedgefield Dash that we are able to build more physical activity into our children’s lives – getting more families moving as a normal part of their day is key to delivering a healthier community. Good luck to all the young dashers.”

Children will also be taking part in throwing and jumping events on Palace Green, while parents are also invited to take part in a race.

The event is collaboration between Durham and Chester-le-Street School Sport Partnership and Durham County Council.
