FOOTBALL legend Kevin Keegan officially opened a multi-million pound facility at a luxury North-East hotel.

The former Newcastle United and England player and manager unveiled a plaque at the £16m spa building at Ramside Hall Hotel, near Durham City.

The 64-year-old did the honours at a champagne reception ahead of a charity event for Water Aid in the evening.

The spa, which was completed in August, has five pools including a 25m swimming pool, bubble pool, hydrotherapy pool, outdoor vitality pool and Balcony Infinity pool.

The thermal suite includes a herbal infusion sauna, Himalayan salt steam, aroma steam, caldarium, sunken amphitheatre sauna and drench showers.

There is a state-of-the art gym with more than 40 classes, 14 treatment rooms, sleep retreat with soundwave therapy beds and sleep bods, mud chamber, beauty snug, relaxation balcony, hair salon and “fusion” restaurant serving Asian meals, afternoon teas and snacks.

Mr Keegan said: “They are absolutely magnificent and it is no surprise because when they do things here they tend to do it right.

“They have got a lot of style and taste and it keeps on adding to the hotel while keeping the character. They have done a great job.”
