A COMEDY exploring the impact of the Miners’ Strike will enjoy a two-night run at the Gala Theatre later this month (February).

Shafted! follows the lives of former pitman Harry and his wife Dot, played by Bafta-winning playwright John Godber and his wife Jane Thornton, in the 30 years since the Strike, as the couple struggle to settle into new jobs and rebuild their community.

The production was premiered in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, recently and will be at the Gala Theatre in Durham City on Monday, February 15 and Tuesday, February 16.

The son of a miner from West Yorkshire, Godber has worked on Grange Hill and Brookside, wrote the screenplay for My Kingdom for a Horse and created the film Up ‘n’ Under. He also co-wrote BBC Two’s Odd Squad.

Thornton has appeared in Coronation Street, Heartbeat, Hollyoaks, Up ‘n’ Under and My Kingdom for a Horse.

Each night's performance will begin at 7.30pm. Tickets are £15 for adults, or £13 for concessions. To book, call 03000-266-600 or visit galadurham.co.uk
