A MAN had to be cut free from his wrecked car by fire fighters in the early hours of this morning after it crashed near Durham.
The road was closed while the emergency services dealt with the incident, which was on the dual carriageway section of the A690 leaving Durham, heading towards A1M.
Durham Police posted a picture of the wreckage of the car on Twitter and said that "somehow" the crash only resulted in minor injuries.
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said two engines from Durham station and a Special Rescue Unit (SRU) from Bishop Auckland attended the crash.
A spokesperson added: "Fire fighters using holmatro cutting equipment were able to release the one male casualty from the vehicle.
"He has been taken to hospital with minor injuries."
