A WOMAN who was hit by a car while walking her dog has died in hospital.

The woman, who was aged 42, was out walking her dog in the hamlet of Littletown, east of Durham City, when the crash happened, shortly after 6pm on Tuesday (January 26).

The car, a Saab, was travelling south-east along Coalford Lane towards Haswell Plough when it collided with the woman, according to Durham Police, "on the carriageway".

The woman was taken to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough by ambulance but she died today (Thursday).

The Durham Coroner has been informed.

The driver of the car, a Saab, was a man in his mid-30s from Peterlee.

Durham Police is investigating the incident and anyone who witnessed it or has information about it is asked to call PC Mike Fisher in the force’s road policing unit on the non-emergency number, 101.
