NATIVITY scenes from across the world were on display to help people focus on the real meaning of Christmas.
Parishioners at St Cuthbert’s Church in Shadforth, near Durham, were invited to take in nativity sets and 30 were produced, from right across the globe.
The display was open to visitors yesterday (Saturday) and Sunday (November 29).
Churchwarden Joan Bell said: “It was to mark the start of Advent and try to focus on the real meaning of Christmas, away from the hype and commercialism.
“It was an amazing time. People came from all the villages around. The atmosphere was terrific. It made for a real buzz on the day.”
Next Saturday (December 5), the church will host a crafting event, where visitors can make Christmas gifts, boxes, decorations and cards.
The event runs from 11am to 3pm and is free. Drinks, cakes and soup will be available. All are welcome.
