A GOLFER has raised more than £1,000 for a hospice - with a little help from his wife, who is a a talented baker.

Brian Pyle chose St Cuthbert’s Hospice as his charity of the year when he was elected as captain of Durham City Golf Club.

Over the last 12 months, Mr Pyle has organised numerous coffee morning and raffles to raise funds, with his wife Karyn baking an array of delicious cakes to sell.

The club’s senior section has already donated £100 to the hospice, located in Merryoaks, Durham City, and Mr Pyle recently handed over another cheque for £1,002.15.

He said: “I chose St Cuthbert’s Hospice as my charity of the year as I know what sterling work they do.

“I would like to thank all the golf club members for their support.”
