MOTORISTS been advised that traffic surveys are being carried out throughout the Durham City area.

Durham County Council says the surveys will continue through the remainder of November to help plan transport improvements.

Some motorists have complained of inconvenience caused by the censuses at points around the city including at Maiden Castle on the A177, Potters Bank on the A167.

Dave Wafer, Durham County Council’s strategic traffic manager, said: “We’re carrying out essential traffic surveys during November to help plan future developments and transport improvements.

“This involves surveying a sample of people on our roads about how and why they’re travelling as well as a range of other surveys not at the roadside.

Safety is of paramount importance so police colleagues are providing traffic control at the survey sites.

“Although we’ve taken all steps to minimise delays we’re extremely grateful for the public’s patience while we carry out this vital work.”
