A VILLAGE’S Post Office branch is to close, with services moving into a nearby shop.

The existing New Brancepeth Post Office at 2 Bewley Terrace will shut, with services relocating to Dhillon’s Village Store, 150m away at 4 Jubilee Close.

The date for the move is yet to be confirmed. Posters will be displayed in the current Post Office when an announcement is made.

Following the move, Post Office services will be available in the village for an extra 45 hours and 30 minutes per week, from 7am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 1pm on Sundays.

Regional manager Suzanne Richardson said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

“We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.

“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future. The investment marks a commitment to no more branch closures programmes.”
