A FISHERMAN was taken to hospital on Friday night with a severe leg injury after falling on a steep embankment in Gilesgate, Durham.
Two fire crews from Durham responded at 8.37pm to the scene - just off Kepier Lane.
It is understood the man had been fishing and had either twisted or broken his ankle and was unable to move the 15ft or so to the top of the bank.
He was treated by paramedics before the firefighters, using safety lines, secured him to a board and carried him up to the waiting ambulance.
They were at the scene until 9.40pm when the man was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham for treatment.
