DURHAM University is the 70th best in the world, according to a new league table.
The North’s leading university jumped 13 places in the new Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, announced today (Wednesday, September 30), placing it tenth among UK universities.
Recently, Durham was placed 61st in the QS World University Rankings, up 31 places on its previous rating, and fifth in the Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide for UK universities.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Stuart Corbridge said: “Durham is a global university, recognised by both students and academics for its excellence in teaching and research.
“The significant rises we have made in the THE and the QS world rankings reflect the strength of Durham’s position globally and highlight the world class experience on offer at the University.
“These rankings are a credit to everyone at the University in helping us to achieve these outstanding results.”
Many students will be returning to Durham this weekend (October 3-4), as Freshers’ Week begins.
THE rankings are based on teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.
