MEMBERS of a Women’s Institute have raised hundreds of pounds for a new bench to mark the organisation’s centenary.
Newton Hall WI has bought a seat to go outside the Durham City estate’s Alnwick Road shops.
The bench was unveiled today (Wednesday, September 30) by local county councillor Mark Wilkes.
He said: “The work the WI does both locally and across the country is exceptional.
“As an organisation originally set up to produce food during the First World War, the Institute has broadened its aims and now works in communities across the UK.
“The Newton Hall WI should be very proud of all the work they do in the community. This new seat will be a lasting reminder of the centenary and will be welcomed by residents on the estate.”
