AN actor from the original Star Wars trilogy and a working DeLorean car made famous in Back To The Future will be among the highlights as a self-proclaimed “Geek Convention” returns for a second year.

Following the sell-out success of last year’s event, KingCon 2 will take place at the Gala Theatre in Durham on Sunday, October 11.

Guest star at the convention will be actor Jeremy Bulloch, who played Bobba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi.

Described by the organisers as “three-floors of beautiful geeky goodness”, the convention is dedicated to sci-fi, gaming and comic book heroes.

Around 500 fans, many of them in CosPlay fancy dress, are expected to attend the all-day show which will feature trade stalls with comic books, collectables, jewellery, merchandise, art works and a tattooist.

There will be also be game design classes, 3D printing, art workshops, retro games, trading card games, a Jurassic Park zone and what is described as a Jedi Bootcamp.

The appearance of the fully converted replica DeLorean coincides with a special occasion for the Hollywood blockbuster, as the time travellers in Back To The Future 2 found themselves transported forward to October 2015, complete with hover boards and flying cars.

Dan Pye, Durham-based director of Dark Matter Events Ltd, said: “Last year was an amazing experience for everyone who attended their local convention.

“I was thrilled we sold out and I think that we can only take the view of the sky being the limit.

“There’s so much we haven’t yet done, and so much we can do to create an amazing, engaging, entertaining, fun day for all”.

The event will feature prizes for the best CosPlay as well as a grand draw and money will be collected on the day for the anti-suicide charity If U Care Share Foundation.

Tickets, priced £15 or £10 for under 12s, are available from the Gala Box office at www.galadurham.co.uk or 03000 266600.
