THE countdown is on to an annual flower festival.

The second Durham Flower Festival will be held at East Durham College’s Houghall campus, near Durham on Bank Holiday weekend.

There will be displays, trade stands, information stalls and prizes for the best flowers, fruit, vegetables, food and art.

Staging will take place on Friday, with judging the following morning.

The festival will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday from 10.30am to 5pm.

Show secretary Dianne Howe said: “This is an incredibly exciting event to be working on and we are so pleased to be again hosting a flower show for the region at our Houghall campus.

“The feedback from exhibitors and the public following the 2014 show was so positive we decided we must do it again and try to grow the show to give the local region a large horticultural festival to add to their diaries for years to come.”

Admission costs £5 for adults and is free for children under 16. Free parking is available at the college. Refreshments will be on sale.
