THE NORTH-East’s biggest military vehicle rally returns this weekend (August 30-31).

The North East Military Vehicle Rally takes place in the grounds of the Durham Light Infantry Museum and Durham Art Gallery, Aykley Heads, Durham over the August bank holiday weekend.

The event, now in its 42nd year, will feature around 70 carefully restored vehicles, along with artillery from the 1930s onwards.

There will also be stalls, re-enactments and art and craft activities for children.

Organised by the North East Military Vehicle Club, the rally is open from 10.30am to 4pm on Sunday (August 30) and Monday (August 31).

Tom Betts, commercial services and programming officer at the DLI Museum, said: “The Military Vehicle Rally is a really popular family day out.

“While there’s lots to interest even the most dedicated enthusiast, it’s also a very friendly gathering where everyone is welcome and we always make sure there is lots to keep younger visitors entertained.”

Outdoor displays and activities are free. Normal admission charges apply for the museum and gallery. For further details, call 03000-266-590, email: dli@durham.gov.uk or visit dlidurham.org.uk
