DURHAM Cathedral will host a special service to celebrate the Queen becoming the country’s longest reigning monarch.
Her Majesty is due to set a new record on Wednesday, September 9, when she overtakes the current record, set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.
That evening, the cathedral will host a commemorative evensong service at 5.15pm.
The Right Reverend Paul Butler, the Bishop of Durham, will preach and the cathedral bells will be rung to mark the occasion.
The service will be hosted by Sue Snowdon, the Lord Lieutenant of County Durham, and is open to all.
